Anglican General Synod. Auckland, August 13. An application his been received by the Primate, Bishop Cowie, asking him to call a special meeting of the General Synod to deal with matters connected . with the Porirua and other church estates which demand their immediate attention. Further applications are expected, and if that request be complied with the Synod will <;raeet on the 12th pros, at ' Wellington. Doubt about the Customs. Wellington, August 12. Over £2,000 was received by the Customs Department to-day on tea cleared from the local bonds. Five of the principle wholesale tirms cleared every package they held. The movement is supposed to have been made in view of the anticipated alterations of duty. Supreme Court Sittings. At the Supremo Court, Walter Richmond, a farmer of Glen Oroua, near Palmerston North, was found guilty of stealing 29 sheep. He was remanded for the report of the probation officer.
