The Waste Lands’ Committee of the Legislative Council have reported that the Land for Settlement Bill as amended by them : In clause six, preventing an owner from disposing of his estate after service of notice by the Land Purchase Inspector, the committee had added an amendment that if the Governor determined not to proceed with the purchase he shall forthwith give notice thereof tr. the claimant, and thereupon the restriction on the disposition of the estate shall cease. j The clauses, dealing with the grouping and sub-division of land, and ballot and second ballot arc re-cast and amended ip detail,

The decision of the Land, Purchase Commissioners is made final as to the value to be paid by an incoming lessee for the latter’s improvement. Part of the regulations, clause 13, dealing with the modifying of the provisions of the Public Works’ Act, 1894, as regards compensation claims, is struck out, but the following new clause is added; “ The provisions of the Land Act and the principal Act are hereby modified insofar as they are inconsistent with this Act; and the provisions of the Public Works’ Act, 1894., relating to the assessment of compensation, are hereby modified insofar as they are inconsistent with the principal Act or this Act. The residential and prohibition of transfer clauses are not amended. ’
