GOLD DREDGING.
Good progress is being made with the erection of the machinery on the Wareatea dredge. The elevators, boiler, engine, and other heavy parts are in position. In a month’s time the work should be completed and the dredge at work shortly thereafter. Mr Shilton is foreman in. charge of the erection of machinery. The dredgemaster, Mr Mitchell, of the Nevis dredge, Otago, will be over on the Coast shortly, Mr M’Lellad, contractor for the building of the Fairdown pontoons, has the work well in hand and hopes to have the pontoons complete in a month’s time. The boiler for the dredge is at Fairdofim.
The Island Creek dredge is idle awaiting alterations to be made in the form of lengthening -the ladder, erecting tables, etc. Two buckets and another grab hook have yet to come to meet requirements. It is anticipated that alterations will be commenced next week.
The Eocklands dredge after experiencing some difficulties during the flood at the early part of the week recommenced work and should be in a position to report a fair return by next week.
