GREYMOUTH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

A meeting of the Chamber of Commerce was held in the Town Hail last night; the President (Mr Mathieson) in the chair.

The President that the Chamber had been called together at the request of a number of members to consider the provisions of the Factories Bill now before Parliament, which wonld in the opinion of very many act detrimentally to the interests of trade and industry. A long discussion ensued. Members being unanimous in their condemnation of tne Bill, which they affirmed would ca use » number of industries to dose.

On the motion of Mr Matheson second" ed by Mr Thomas, it was unanimously resolved—“ That this Chamber most strongly protests against the provisions of the Factories Bill now before Parliament as they are most disastrous to the interests! of the industrial community, and more particularly clauses 16, 19, 20, and 32, relating to hours of labor and holidays.” Mr Campbell moved and Mr Parfitt seconded—“ That a copy of the foregoing resolution be forwarded to the Eight Hon the Premier, and also to the member for the district and the Hon J. Eerr, asking them to use their best endeavours to have the Bill now before Parliament withdrawn.” Carried unanimously.
