An ox-policeman, formerly stationedjin the Kimberley district, has given the press details of gross cruelties perpetrated by whites on the aboriginals, many of whom were flogged on the slightest pretext and otherwise shockingly treated. An inquiry is called for.

Sydney, July 29. The Presbyterian Assembly sustained the overture from the New South Wales Assembly, expressing sympathy with the idea of a United Evangelistic Christian Church of Australia, and appointed a committee to consider the principles on which the Presbyterian Church was prepared to participate in a larger union and report at the next Assembly.
