THE AMERICAN CUP RACE.

The dimensions of the Constitution, the America Cup defender, arc as follows :— Length over all, 132 f t; load waterline, 90ft; extreme beam, 25T7ft; draught, 20ft; length from the after end of the main boom to the forward point of measurement, 187 , 62 f t; length from the fore side of mast to the forward point of measurement, 75 , 85 f t; spinnaker pole, 75ft; sail area, 14,300 square feet. The spar dimensions are' approximate, but are substantially correct. The New York Sun remarked recently:—“The new yacht may be summed up as a model unequalled in fineness and beauty of lines. She is practically an improxed Columbia, having more driving power but less hull weigh t, _ There are approximately 90 tons of in her keel the shape of which allows the yacht to be driven more easily than »• the ordinary bulb-shaped keel does."

It is said, on apparently good authority, says an American correspondent, that the lead keel of the Constitution was cast in the mould used for the Columbia two years ago, and to all appearances the form and dimensions of the two keels are identical; at the same lime it seems probable that a few tons of lead have been added as might easily have been done by a slight alteration to the mould. The rake of the sternpost is the same, or pos.sibly a little greater than in the Columbia.
