(OUB OWN COEBEBPONDENT.)
The largest public meeting ever held in the Little Grey district assembled at Ikamatua on Friday night, 26th inst., tourge upon Government the necessity of appointing a station-master at the local railway station, and of enlarging the station yard. Mr W. C. Mirfin occupied the Chair, and among the speakers were Mr Mclnroe, M.C.C. (the convenor of the meeting) and Messrs O’Malley, Bowater, Fitzgerald, Lloyd, Prendergast, Boss, Flynn, Feary, A.Molnroe, and O’Connor. As the chief arguments used by these gentlemen in support of the object of the meeting have already appeared in the Stab, it is unnecessary to recapitulate them here. Suffice it to say tnat the meeting was unanimous in passing the following'resolutions in the order in which they here appear.
1. “ That in the opinion of this meeting it is necessary to have a station-master at Ikamatua. The traffic fully warrants •aoh appointment, as settlers and others are pat to considerable loss and trouble owing to goods left at the station going astray. The meeting is further of opinion that the crossing of the np and the down trains at Ikamatua should be supervised by a station-master, whose appointment as post and telegraph master would bs a great convenience.” 3. •* That the station yard at Ikamatua should be enlarged in accordance with the suggestions of Mr Burnett, Inspecting Bngiassr, as it is impossible to carry on tha increasing limber industry with the yard In its present state.” 3. “ That the foregoing resolutions be forwarded to the Minister of Railways.”
4. H That Mr Guinness M. H. B. be written to and asked to kindly give the wishM of the meeting his best support. ” 6. “ That the secretary to the meeting write to the Minister of Public Works asking him' to have the necessary repairs offeeted to the Big Grey bridge at once, os the structure is unsafe and dangerous to traffic of any sort’ ” v The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to the Chairman for presiding, and to Mr Mclnroe for calling the residents together.
