In committee on the Land for Settlements Act Amendment Bill, in the course of discussion beddon promised to bring in a Bill to amend the Grown Tenants Rebate of Rent Act, making it apply to all tenants, and to give effect to tho wishes of tho legislature. A new clause was added to provide that applicants for land shall be reduced by ballot to the number of sections available, and a second ballot shall then bo taken to determine tho successful applicant. A new clause was also inserted, making it compulsory upon every applicant who obtains an alio • ment under the Act to reside continuously thereon. Another new clause was agreed to .prohibiting the transfer in any lease except under extraordinary circumstances, The Bill was reported with amendments which were set down for consideration at 7 30 p m, to which hour the House adjourned.
