Football. Sydney, July 20. In the football match New South Wales beat Queensland by 11 points to 8 Cfeistchoech, July 20. FcK the football match to-day it was very sloppy after the wet. Christchurch played Merivale, and after a very smart game won by 6to 3. The winners scored two splendid tries, and the game was very fast. This means that Christchurch and Merivale will have to play off for th® championship. Wellington, July 20. Wellington defeated Wairarapa by 14 points to 8. The ground was sloppy and the weather drizzling. It was a forward game, though the Wellington backs came with occasional scoring runs. Wallace played a fine three-quarter game, and scored two tries, converting one, and kicked a penalty goal. Burr also got a try. The Wairarapa forwards were a dashing lot, while the backs did some good line kicking, but had no combination, J. McKenzie and Armstrong secured tries, and one was converted by E. McKenzie. E. McKenzie and L. Armstrong were the pick of the Wairarapa men. The game as a whole was interesting and well contested throughout, but there were no brilliant features. Wairarapa led by 8 to 6 at half time. Mr Norris was referee.
