PATEA ELECTION.

The New Member.

[oue paeliamentaey eepoetee.]

Wellington, This Day.

Heslop was elected for Patea by the narrow majority of of six votes. He was for many years Chairman of the Hawera County Council and is still a member of the Taranaki Licensing Committee and Land Board. Heslop is an inexperienced speaker and was further handicapped during the late contest with sore throat. This is the first time he has sought Parliamentary honors.
