Beceived this day at 8 38 a.m. London, July 14. Of eight scouts engaged at Smalldeel in frustrating the Boor cattle raid, three were killed and five wounded. The laiter lay on the ground firing until the Eoyal scouts came up and cleared away the enemy.

Boers attempted to raid a big herd near Pretoria, but after a sharp fight at close quarters were repulsed with loss.

Lord Kitchener admits that the scouts surprised and dispersed Pretorious not Meyer's commando, while escorting a oonvoy.
