GREY BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The usual meeting of the above Council was held last night. Present—the Mayor. Crs M’Lean, Thomas, Joyce, Petrie, Steer, Ashton, Bignell, and Sheedy.

The Returning Officer reported Loan Proposals carried and vote in Mackay street recommended.

Letter from Inspector of Police relative to biliiard room in Johnstone street. Resolved that Mr Lord make further enquiries and report at next meeting.

A number of letters and telegrams relative to Chinese cemetery (already published) road aud received. The report of the Accident Insurance Committee recommended letting matter stand as at present, till present contract expires.

The report of the Captain of the Fire Brigade was read and adopted and led to strong comments in regard to the nonpayment of firemen sent to the Blackball Mine. It was, on motion of Cr. Bignell, agreed to impower the Brigade Finance Committee to pay and demand amount from Company.

The following tenders for lamplighter were dealt with, the tender price being at per lamp per annum: —

Upon the motion of Mr Thomas, the tender of Henry Bade—an old resident—was accepted.
