The Daily Express Delagoa Bay correspondent reports a fight between Maehadodorp and Lydsnburg, in which the Boers were defeated, losing 50 killed and many wounded. The following officers are mentioned in despatches for conspicuous services ; Nc'w South Wales Sixth Imperial Bushmen—Major O’Brien, for handling the men who captured the guns and convoy at the Vaalbank pursuit on March 24th. New Zealanders Captains Walker and Arthur, for the capture of De la lily’s guns and convoy on March 14th ; Lieut Reid, for the exceedingly smart capture of Commandant Schroder, 41 Boers and a Maxim near Commassie Drift on April 25.

A Queenslander Major Tunbridge, engagement on February 7. Victorians —Major Clarke for his excellent execution of orders at Zuurberg, well backed by officers and men ; Captain Sturdic, riding half a mile under fire to aid the wounded ; Lieut H. Anderson, coolness and determination in extracting a patrol at llhonoster Kop ; Lieut. Patterson, Helical Corps, under close fire for two hours assisting the wounded. The following New Zealanders are mentioned in despatches and promoted : Lance-Corporal Turnbull, capturing Boers at Aik Cave, Dwarsvoei; Private Fie. who with Eouse captured two wagons, arms and ammuni tion at Pietpotgietesrust, The following were promoted in connection with the Vaalbank fight in March last.

New Zealanders—Corporal O’Dowd, Privates Bundle and Drinnan, charging and capturing a gun; Privates Thurlow, exposure to fire in sending wagons to the rear; Wylie, charging and capturing a gun alone and killing two out of four gunners.

At the Asquith banquet Hon Mr Brodrick, speaking at the National Union of Conservatives, said that at all hazards and risks in the Transvaal campaign had been carried through, and Government would n 4 flinch at any demand upon the country. Queenslanders Acting-Sergeant Shadforth, rescuing a horseless private under heavy, fire at Booehdop ; Privates Alford, Cullingford ai d Holland, each capturing single-handed several armed Boers at Driejcuilen. The New South Wales Imperial Bushman promoted for action at Vaalbank tight were Sergt. Thompson, Lance-Corporal McClimont, Corporal Newlands, Privates Rhodenback Fowkes, for individual acts of promptness and successful daring. A great city meeting of Guildhall stockbrokers formed in procession and marched to the building, cheering and singing. The meeting unanimously supported the Government’s South African policy. The Lord Mayor and city members of the House of Commons were speakers. There was tremendous enthusiasm.

It was an overflow meeting, and filled the square facing Guildhall. Major Eose, with 70 Western Australians'of the 4th Contingent, Queenslanders, Victorians, Tasmanians, South Australians, and New Zealanders have sailed from East London for Australia. A rebel named Marais was executed at Middleburg. The leading inhabitants were ordered to witness the execution.
