BOY'S ESSAY ON THE TURKEY.
Here is a boy's essay on the turkeys : Tho turkey is a blew bird, generally fat, wish thick legs.. It has no tail worth mentioning at the side of a cock's tail, but it has instead, a long piece of skin hanging from its head and under its chin just like red tripe,. Thisjskin is generally dirty at the bottom because of its draggling on the ground when tho bird is feeding. . . . It, is not cruel to kill a turkey, if only you take it into the back yard, and use a sharp knife a d the turkey is yours. The turkey makes a queer noise called gobblin', like as there was bits of balls a-rattlin' in its neck. It's a half tame bird, and if you are kind to it, it will let you feed it. Boys pretend they have got a piece of bread in their hand, when it is only a bit of orange pill, and when the turkey comes up nicely and picks it cut of their hands, it sneezes it out of its mouth again, and then chiveys them a long way up the road. Boys like the turkey to run after them, because they get home quicker without feeling tired. . . . Turkeys lay very dear eggs what you can't afford, but they do not give butter or milk, because they can't do it, not if they tried three times."
