NO TYPEWRITERS FOR TURKEY.
| o:o The Turkish Customs authorities have come to the decision of prohibiting the entry of typewriters into the country, on the ground that there is no characteristic about type writing by which the authorship can be recognised—there is no distinct feature about it, as with handwritin by which the person who used th machine can be traced. Consequently it is argued, anybody would be able to»
type seditious writings without fear of \ compromising himself, and to prevent this the Custom House refuses to admit any typewriting machines. A large consignment of about 200 machines, which arrived a fortnight ago, is still in the Custom House, and will probably have to be returned. The Embassies interested are making representations with a viewto inducing the authorities to lake up a more reasonable attitude. For a similar reason to the above, hektographic paste and fluid is now also being stopped 1 at the Custom House.
