Fire in Auckland. Auckland, This Day. Early this morning a fire was discovered in the third storey of Eobert Furness Co., Fort Street. The brigade suppressed the- blaze and confined it to the upper storey which was used as a lollie factory. The remainder of the premises was damaged by water to the extent of several hundreds. The damage at the fire at Turness's is over £2,000. It is insuredVfor £4,900 in six offices. Miners' Union Trouble. The Miners' Union formally rejected the award of the Conciliation Board, and have appealed to the Arbitration Court.

The Returning Troops. Dunedin, This Day. The Defence Department is convinced that the Tagus comes to Port Chalmers in the first instance. Arrangements are being made to tranship the troops at this port. * Found Drowned. Christchurch, July 10. Catherine Kennell, a widow, aged 63, was found drowned in a pool of water in Hagley Park. There were marks of violence. She has been unwell for sometime, and was an old age pensioner. Post Office Clocks. Wellington This Day.

The contract for supplying the Post Office with chiming and striking clocks for Masterton, Oamaru and the Bluff was let by Government to Littlejohn and Son Wellington. The cost is to be between £2OOO and £3OOO. Returning Troopers. Wellington, This Day. The Premier has just at 1 p. in. informed me that the Tagus will require to be quarantined for 21 hours, Albany being an infected port. The troopers will be transhippad to the Te Anau to-morrow afternoon, and landed at the Bluff on Friday morning. They go overland to Dunedih on Saturday, arriving there about half-past two.

At a meeting of Citizens to-day it was resolved that the returning troopers of the fourth and fifth contingents be welcomed on arrival at the wharf and afterwards entertained at luncheon.
