GREYMOUTH JOCKEY CLUB.

The annual meeting of the above club was held last evening in the Club Boom, Albion Hotel. Mr Petrie in the chair. The annual report stated that “the committee are pleased that the club’s operations for the year have been even more successful financially than tlie previous year. While maintaining the course and appointments in good order, the Debenture account has, as predicted by the Committee at the last annual meeting, been reduced from £ISOO to £IOSO. A farther reduction of £SOO is expected to bo made during the current year,” The balance-sheet showed a total income for the year of £3369 13s 8d the amount given in stakes being £1635. The report and balance-sheet wore adopted. Mr John Hogg and G. T. Moss were re-elected auditors. The election of Committee was then ’proceeded with, the result being as follows

The Chairman congratulated Messrs M‘Carthy and Yarrall upon polling every vote in the room. Mr A. Matheson (Mayor) complimented the outgoing committee on the successful way in which they had administered the affairs of the club. Had it not been fjr their alertness and activity probably Greymouth would not have been the metropolitan of the Coast. Under another state of affairs Nelson might have enjoyed that honor, as she had a larger population and a prestige that counts for SOUK thing in such matters. Altogether, —thought the people of Greymouth had reason to be sauiiicd wuu t-nGigG and capable-administration of their committee, and thought that they were entitled to receive some recognition on the Value of their services. He felt quite certain that they would conduct and maintain the affairs of the club as successfully in the future as they had done in the past. In accordance with this feeling of satisfaction, which he felt was general, ho would move a vote of hearty thanks to the committee of the club for the successful way in which they had conducted the business of the club during the past year. Mr Eisscnhardt seconded, and the

• motion w r as carried. The Chairman, responding on behalf of the committee, said that he hoped that at i the end of the next year the members of the club would be ]ust as well satisfied with the management of the club as they were then. He believed that the incoming year' would be rather more successful than the outgoing one. He might say (

without any boastfulness that the appointments of the Greymouth course would compare favorably with those of almost any of the Jockey Clubs in New Zealand —they certainly could do so in regard to population and general surroundings. The Club had already paid otf some to 00 of its debentures. Next year they anticipated that they would pay off a like amount probably a little more. The indebtedness had been reduced from £1,500 to £IOSO.

Mr Mathieson, in a highly eulogistic speech, proposed the health of Mr Shecdy, “ The Father of the Club,” and related seeing that gentleman along with others making out the ground. Mr Sbeody, in an interesting sketch of by-gone days, made a suitable reply. An hour was then very pleasurably devoted to toast and sentiment.
