J, O’Brien. Licensee of the Caledonian Hotel, Greymouth, was charged with a breach of the Licensing Act, in selling liquor on Sunday to other than a bona fide traveller.
Mr O’Brien stated that Meade often got meals and drink that he never paid for. He got no liquor on the Sunday in question. Teresa O’Brien stated that Meade came into their house after Church on Sunday last. j£ho did not supply Meade with drink nor sho see any supplied. Meade was not sober when he came in. It was not true that sho supplied Mcado with a drink.
By the Inspector : Will swear positively that Meade did not get drink from witness on Sunday. Meade did not always pay for drink. Never saw Meade with money.
James Costigan had met with an accident in the hush and was boarding at tbe Caledonian Hotel. On the Sunday in question .saw Meade on the premises about two o’clock, and heard him ask O’Brien for a drink and O’Brien replied he would not give him any drink. His mother was complaining about him. By the Inspector: Did not think Meade was the worse for liquor, though did not take particular notice of him. The Magistrate held the case to be proved and fined defendant £lO and costs.
C. Hansen v. 0. Brown.—Claim for 14/6 for goods supplied; judgment by default for amount claimed with costs.
