GREY EDUCATION BOARD.

The regular meeting of the Grey Education Board was hold at the Board’s ollice last night. Present—Messrs Harris (chairman), Petrie, White, Flynn, M'Carthy and Byrne. The hon treasurer reported the general account to bo credit £44 Bs, and the building account ci edit £l7l 13s 6d. The Chairman said that a vote of £l5O would be forthcoming before next meeting from the Board of Governors of the High School. Letter of thanks from the Hon Mr Walker thanking the Board for their congratulations upon the honor conferred upon him by the King.

The Chairman said the Minister could not be seen during his recent visit in regard to Educational matters.

Mr Kettle said it was impossible to go on unless the Government gave aid. lie moved that a telegram be sent to the hon. the Minister of Education informing him that the school cannot be opened till the Government pay something towards cost, and that Messrs Kerr, Guiuncss and Petrie (who would be in Wellington) be asked to see the Minister and inform him to that effect. Mr Byrne seconded. Mr White said it was no use seeing the Minister any more upon the matter. Mr Marshall favored Mr Kettle’s ideas, as did Messrs M'Carthy and Flynn.— Resolution carried. Prom No Town Committee recommending Miss Moriarity. Appointment sanctioned.

From Education Department stating that Minister regrets he cannot grant any assistance towards Cobden School.

The secretary informed the Board that he had received the medals and flags for the school children, and that the Minister had instructed that they be issued to all children attending any school. From the Education Department, forwarding £33 15s, being the sum for the District High School for the March quarter. Mr Kettle moved that the matter stand over till neat meeting. Mr Petrie seconded.

Mr White proposed that half be given to Mr Smith, and other half divided between Mr Adams and Miss Blair, who also taught in the school.

Mr Petrie said Miss Blair was not a High School teacher. He had it on the authority of the head master that she had not taught in the High School for three years. Mr White —The secretary informs me that Miss Blair is a High School teacher. Mr Marshall thought that as two dif. forcut statements were before the meeting the matter should be held over. Mr McCarthy suggested that the Secretary should supply all the information necessary in this matter.

Mr White then withdrew his amendment, .and the matter stands over till text meeting.

Mr Adams reported on the trip of the Cadets, and said the boys had had a very enjoyable trip. The teachers in charge had fulfilled their duties well. Mr Weston and the Normal school trustees were very kind and attentive. Mr Petrie moved that a letter be sent to Messrs Adams, Smith, Pegler and l)e Berry thanking them for the care they had taken of the boys ; and a letter be also sent thanking Mr Weston and the Normal school trustees, for their courtesy. Mr Flynn seconded. Carried.

From the ’Chairman Kokiri School Committee forwarding application from Mrs White' for one month s leave of absence.

Several members expressed regret that Mrs While was ill. On motion of Mr Petrie, seconded by Mr Marshall, leave was granted, the Chairman to have power to send teacher in place.

Mr Kettle brought before the Board the state of the Blackball school, owing to the bad drainage.

Mr White moved that the committee be written to and asked what it would cost to repair the drain. Mr Byrne seconded. Carried, Mr Marshall was instructed to get a bricklayer to erect a chimney at Ngahere.
