GOLD DREDGING.

The S.S. Oereda which arrived in Wei. *""*' lington tho othor day from New York, brings dredging machinery for tho Victory,

Aldinga, Westland and Moonlight dredging companies. The first instalment will arrive to-night by the steamer Waverley. Erickson's Beward bent a four inch shaft yesterday. It was brought to town this morning and put right by the foundry, being returned by the four o'clock train. It will be put in position to-night and work resumed to-morrow morning. The dredge is now quite clear of the timber and is now likely to have a good run. The Island Creek dredge broke her Jinion yesterday. A spare one being on and it was fixed on to-day, and work will be resumed to-morrow. '., ■ The Grey Consolidated broke her tumbler yesterday, it is supposed through the frost. The Dispatch Foundry sent 1> up a new one this morning, and work will likely be resumed on Monday morning. The prospects of this claim are very good. The Leviathan has practically all her machinery to pieces. It is being overhauled, repaired and altered, the directors evidently haying at length taken the advice of their late dredgemaster. The contractor for the Trafalgar dam reports to the engineer this morning as follows :—"I finished the dam last Wednesday, and the race is almost completed. I will have wator.in the dam by Saturday night.
