New Zealand and Federation. Melbourne, July 3. In reply to a question in reference to the New Zealand Commission reporting against joining Federation. Mr Barton said he thought that the report would probably only refer to Federation at the present time. He did not imagine any Bach report would settle the question for all time. The Royal Yisit. Hobaet, July 3. There was fine weather for the landin g Of the Duke and Duchess from the Ophir this afternoon. The Governor-General and Administrator of the Government welcomed the Royal visi'ors at the wharf, and a great crowd enthusiastically greeted them. It is estimated that 60,000 lined the streets, along which the procession passed to the Town Hall, where the Mayor presented an address of welcome.
The streets and public' buildings wore splendidly decorated.
