PATENT FIRE ESCAPE.

[To the Editor.)

Sib. —I saw in your valuable paper the other night an account of a patent fire escape ladder. It set me thinking, with the result that last night I thought out the best conceived idea of an appliance ever yet discovered. It is safe, effective, durable and inexpensive. Every room over the first storey can be fitted with an appliance that will let to the ground the occupants in a very few seconds with safety. It is the very thing for factories or large hotels, as the occupants need not go fumbling about in the smoko looking for the fire escape ladder. This appliance can he manufactured at any ordinary iron manufacturers. As I don’t understand much about the laws relating to patent rights, and being a poor man with a large family I am prepared to discuss terms with any largo firm or agents of the same, or any local speculating company of enterprising gentlemen. If no agreement can be effected I shall try the Americans. William Hardison Hill.
