I The Premier, as Minister of Defence, has given Mr T. M. Wilford, member for Wellington Suburbs, an assurance that there will be an enquiry into the grievances of the volunteers in regard to their treatment at the Newtown Park camp. A Departmental enquiry will not, however, satisfy Mr Wilford, who insists that it must be a public enquiry of the fullest possible character, and he suggests that it should take place before a Commission or Board consisting of some one appointed by the Defence Department, anothei nominated by the aggrieved men, and a Stipendiary Magistrate who possesses some knowledge of volunteering, and who shall act as chairman. Mr Wilford himself offers to fill the roll as prosecutor, as he has already in his possession a mass of evidence supporting the allegations that have been made through the columns of the local press. It seems improbable that anything can be done towards starting the enquiry until after the departure of the Royal visitors from the colony. T. W. Tyraons and Co., having disposed of their business, respectfully ask that the accounts owing to them bo settled during this month. —Advt.
