A CONTRADICTION.

Sib, —In your issue of 25th inst gives currency to a statement by your Kumara correspondent to the effect that the Stafford-Waimea Gold Dredging Company have let the contract for the excavation of their dam to a party of Chinamen. Allow me to state that this is entirely contrary to fact. The Company have let a contract—not to Chinamen—giving a very ample price, and have no further concern with the matter.—l am, etc.,
