The Gab Accident. £ Wellington. June 17. At tjio inquest to-day on the man Penington, who was run over by a cab while lying in a right of way leading to the stablethe verdict was returned of accidental death, and no blame attached to the owner of the cab. The man was stupid with drink when taken to the hospital and death was accelerated by his alcoholic condition. Teachers' Salaries Commission. The Teachers' Salaries Commission sat to-day and heard the evidence of Watson, 8.A., headmaster of the Vcard School, who presented a report, drawn up by the Teachers' Institute, which had great stress on the necessary for the adequate staffing of schools, and the sufficient payment of teachers. A Rough Pa saga. Wellington, June 18. The barque Campbell had a very rough passage from Liverpool to this port. Licensing Trouble. As the outcome of the refusal of the Wellington Suburbs Licensing Committee to renew the license of the Rainbow i Hotel, Kaiwarawara, the licensee applied to the Chief Justice this morning for a] mandamus to the Licensing Committee ] compelling it to grant a renewal of the license, or in the alternative to rehear the application. Mr Skerrett opposed on behalf of the Licensing; Committee. Judgment was reserved. Importad Stock, Five thoroughbred horses purchased in England by Mr Gilruth have arrived by the Papanui. They are in first rate condition. A Stabbing Case. A long standing charge of stabbing by Henry Burton against Thomas Brown, a seaman, was disposed of by the StipenJary Magistrate to-day when the accused was discharged. The affair arose out of a midnight brawl in Victoria Street and the story of the prisoner was that he had defended himself against Burton and two other men who had tried to rob him.
