Bad Weather in Wellington, Wellington, This Day. It is raining heavily to-day, and promises to spoil the open air functions, the most important of which are the presentation of medals to the returned soldiers, and a garden party at Government house. A Correction. The statement that the Duke will present colors to any corps in New Zealand is incorrect. It is desired officially that this misstatement should be corrected. Presentations. The Governor this morning personally g resented the Cup he had given as Hon. olonel of the Wellington Battalion to the Post and Telegraph Eifles, who won it in competition for field firing. The Duchess of York received from a deputation, representing the women of, Wellington, the gift of a carved model Maori nouse. The presentation was made by Mrs H. D. Bell on behalf of the committee. The Duchess expressed her great pleasure in accepting the gift, and
asked that her thanks be tendered to the donors. As the carving is unfinished a model belonging to Lady Ranfurly was used, and the gift itself is to be forwarded to England later on. Presentation of Medals, There was a large attendance at the presentation of medals. The men were drawn up on the lawn at the Parliamentary Buildings. The surroundings were crowded. Their Eoyal Highnesses drove up punctually at noon and received hearty cheers. No time was lost in getting to work, and the medals were given almost as fast as Colonel Penton could call out the names of-the 311 and handed to the recipients by the Duke who wore the uniform of the Irish Fusiliers. Nurses Morson and Warmington who- came last received three cheers. A running fire of applause was kept up during the whole ceremony. Trooper Morgan, of Hokitika, who rendered some service to Prince Teck during the campaign, was presented to the Duchess of York. Just as the Eoyalties had left a rain squall came on and drove the crowd • home.
