THE REEFTON CADETS.
In response to a wire sent by Captain Austin of Reefton yesterday as to whether the local cadets were to accompany the other volunteers to Wellington, Mr S. Ellis, Secretary to the Nelson Education Board, replied as follows : ‘'Your cadets may go to Christchurch. Please comrnunicalc with or see local agent of Union Company as to the date of steamer leaving; officers to have acting commissions granted them a teacher should go in charge; how many of required height willing to go.” As no mention was made as to the payment of expenses, Mr Austin at once communicated with Captain Loveday, the organising officer, who replied as follows : —"Yea, cadets by Corinna, en route for Lyttelton via Wellington on 15th ; railway pass ard orders posted you 10th; Government pays all expenses.” Mr Austin has also received a number of leaflets containing ins.ructions as to discipline, entraining, what to bring, embarkation, duties on board, refreshments, etc. Among the rules laid down is a very stringent one prohibiting smoking, and the carrying of matches etc. all of which only go to show that everything has been done to take the utmost care of the cadets. We also understand that arrangements arc being made to provide kharki uniforms in Wellington for those not at present in that dress, so that all will be uniformally attired.
