KUMARA-GREENSTONE ROAD
(To the Editor.) Slit. —My attention has been called to par in your Kumara letter of the 3th mst.. in which your correspondent pats himself on the back for being the cause of repairs being done to the Greenstone Hoad at Westbrook. Now lam sorry to have to knock his little idol on the head, but in justice to the member of the Hiding, I may inform your correspondent, that I received instructions on the 24th May, to put men on and repair the road, but owing to the wet weather,(l2 days in succession) work on the road was impossible until the 6th inst. I may also remark that if the Kumara timber and coal drays used the wide tyres, as they should do, according to the recent bye-law of the County Council, the road would never have got into the state it did. Your correspondent suggests that as the Council has now put its “ head to the plow, etc.” I presume he meant “ hand,” then God help the road, as the “plow ” will be worse than the narrow tyres. —I am &c. W. T. Wxiitton, In Charge of Work. Greenstenc, June 12th, 1901.
