Prisoner Escapes. Beceived this day, at 9 34 a m. Sydney, June 14. A constable conveying a prisoner to Albury by train, stopped at a station at midnight with the excuse of going to the lavatory, the prisoner jumped off and the constable fired two shots, but escaped till morning when he was arrested 15 miles from the scene of his escape. A flesh wound in his leg was the result of the constable’s shot. His hands were terriblylbruised, he having dragged off the handcuffs. Disastrous Fire. Received this day at 9 55 a. m. Sydney, June 14. A fire in the top floor of Mason Bros large warehouse did extensive damage. Insurances include £4200 in New Zealand insurance Coy. New Hebrides Question. Melbourne, June 14. In reply to a question Barton repeated his recent assurance in regard to the New Hebrides and promised to request the Imperial Government not to conclude any agreement in respect to the Islands before communicating with the Commonwealth. Small-pox Case. Harris an Ormuz small-pox patient is dead.
