PARLIAMENTARY REPRESENTATION.
Calculations have been made by the Auckland Star as to the representation of the various districts in the Legislative Council. Tho result is as follows: —North Island—Auckland, 7 members, or 1 in 28,000 persons; Wellington, 5, or I in 27,000; Taranaki, 2, or lin 17,500 persons ; Hawke’s Bay, 4, or 1 in 9,300. South Island—Canterbury, 8, or 1 in 13,200; Otago, 18, or lin 13,500 ; Nelson 3, or 1 in 13,000; Westland, 2, or 1 in 7,500; Marlborough, 2, or lin 6,500. It will thus be seen that Otago has nearly twice as many Councillors as Auckland, and nearly three times as many as Wellington. It has only five less than the total number of Councillors for the North Island, and more than one-fourth of the number of Councillors for tho whole of the colony.
