GOLD DREDGING.
Orwell Creek. —Mr H. Wilson who erected the machinery on the Grey Consolidated, is carrying out the same work on the Orwell Creek dredge.
The Greenstone Junction dredge is at present at a standstill, putting in new pins and clutches that couples the elevators, those supplied with the machinery having worn out. In the meantime a number of men have been put to work building a wing-dam, which, when constructed, will stop the silt which has been hitherto a great drawback to dredging operations on this claim. The Perky’s Reward dredge took a turn out of the machinery on Saturday, and everything was found to work sat s(actorily. The contractors state they experienced no difficulty whatever in settingup tho machinery. Everything went together without a hitch, and Works monthly. This machinery, it will bo remembered was purchased from one of the Otago dredges. The dredge will commence work this week, but as she has to work herself out of tho dam it will probably ho the end of tho month before dredging operations are really started.
