The annual meeting of the Literary Institution was held at Brunner last evening. Mr John Coulthard (vice-President) occupied the chair and the report and balance-aheet was read and approved of. The following were elected a committee of management for the ensuing year : President, E. Allison, Esq. ; Vice-Presi-dents. J. Coulthard and T. Franklin ; Hon. Secretary, Eobert Guild; Committee—Messrs Noble, Jackson, Walker, Masters, Watchman, McCormack, Muncaster, Newton, Scott, and E. Moth. It was unanimously resolved that a hearty vote of thanks be accorded to Mr A. Eyan, late secretary to the institution, for his services and a donation of three guineas be voted to him. It was resolved that ten pounds worth of new books bo ordered from Scotland. The spectators at a football match at Tahuna Park, Dunedin, last Saturday were provided with a novelty in the shape of a course between a greyhound and a rabbit, which took place during the progress of the game and on the actual field of play. Bunny was started in the neighbourhood of the cattle 'sheds, and careering on to the ground, ran between the legs of a Southern three quarter who was waiting to receive the ball. The player in question made a nervous but useless kick at the rabbit, and a greyhound belonging to ono of the spectators then appeared on the scene and gave chase. After a short course bunny was captured by his pursuer. The United States warship, Brooklyn, at present at Wellington, has been thrown open to the public, many of whom visited her last week. The vessel was, says our Wellington correspondent, to have been elaborately prepared and decorated for Eear-Admiral Eeney’a party on Saturday night.
