GOLD DREDGING.

The Grey River Consolidated dredge is working well and on bottom. The first wash up should take place on Saturday, and the return should be a fair one.

The machinery of the Ahaura dredge is working admirably, and a wash-up will, in all likelihood, take place on Saturday. , Erickson’s Reward dredge washed up on Saturday. She has now got a good face to work on, and there should be a good return this week. Perry’s Reward dredge is to have a trial run to-morrow. Opinion differs slightly as to the probable results from this dredge. The Island Creek dredge continued to open out a paddock last week and did not wash up on Saturday. The dredgemaster of Now River reports to-day as follows : —“ I regret to have to report that yesterday afternoon we had a breakdown, breaking two teeth out of the big spur wheel. The accident was caused by the friction clutch catching and gripping too tight. lam now affecting repairs which will take a little while. The accident has happened at a most unfortunate time as the gold prospect were very good and the wash making. I view of the above I hardly expect to wash up this week.” The Grey River is working well, and should give a satisfactory return this week. Apparently this is a claim that will be “ patchy," possibly always clearing expenses and occasionally “ striking it rich.”
