The Tavanaki News states that on the authority of Muldrock, attorney for George Hutcheson, that the hitter's resignation of the Patea seat will be in the hands of the Speaker within a week. Dynamiters in Wellington. Eod Bros' butchery shop in C'ourtenay Place was visited by dynamiters during Saturday night. An explosive was placed ready for firing, but the depredators must then have been disturbed, for the fuse, though in position, was not lit. The Auckland Fire Victims. Auckland, This Day. The funeral of the victims of the Grand Hotel fire was largely attended. A memorial service was attended by 6000, men, women and children weeping unrestrainedly stood throughout the service. Temperance Alliance.

At the Alliance Temperance meeting held in Albert Park, 3000 being present, reference was made to the fire, the Chairman expressing a hopo that a strict enquiry would be made into fire escapes all hotels in the colony. It was resolved to ask the Licensing Committee not to grant any extension of hours of hotel keepers during the Eoyal visit.

Isitfc said that for the first time in fifteen years he noticed that the consumption of liquor in this colony had diminished one half. He had been in Wellington eleven months. It was the most the most drunken city in the colony.

A large meeting in the Opera House resolved against any extension of hotel hours.

Natives for Botorua.

On Saturday night one thousand Natives arrived in town bound for Botorua. One contingent of 250 strong is from the north of Auckland, the others are from Hawke's Bay, Wanganui, Otaki, Wairarapa and other southern localities. Natives aro arriving daily in numbers on route for Botorua.

Railway Accident. Dunbdin, June 3.

Alexander Anderson, a platelayer, and about 60 years of age, while walking on the railway line near Deborat Bay tunnel, yesterday, fell from the bridge on to the boulders below. He was found in a paralysed condition, and it is, feared his spine is injured. Anderson also acted as watchman at the Waitati Cliffs.

Arthur Simpson, (married, and four children) was killed by a fall of rock on a road contract at Karamea.

Poisoned by eating tinned Fish Woodville, This Day.

Messrs Fairbairn, -Landlord of the Post Office Hotel, his son, and two friends, were poisoned last night by eating tinned fish. They had herrings and tomato sauce about ten o'clock, and were afterwards taken ill. One victim named M'Gee is very bad and the doctor was only called in time to save his life. There is a great improvement in the condition of all this morning. . Shocking Death. Auckland, This Day. A child was scalded to death by falling into a boiling spring at Botorua. Arrival of the Governor. Auckland, This Day. The Governor arrived from Sydney by the Waikare. Ex-Judge Martin Practising. Ex-Judge Martin is defending McKee, who is charged with gum stealing. The Alliance Balance-Sheet. The balance-sheet of the Alliance shows a credit of £9O, the largest in the history of the Alliance. The amount of debt liquidated last year was £412. To secure this satisfactory position the aggressive work of the Alliance suffered, but the work of organising is increasing.

It has been decided _to add to the present a table on which to stand a model of a Maori House with a tablet in gold setting forth by whom given.
