GREENSTONE DREDGING NOTES
(OUE OWN CORRESPONDENT.)
The intermittent rains of the last few weeks culminated in a heavy flood in the Greenstone Creek on Wednesday night. Some slight damage was done to dredging, the dam of the Greenstone-Three Milo dredge broke away, and left the vessel nearly dry. The damage is not serious, and a day or two should repair it. A large tree got foul of the head lino of the Greenstone Creek dredge, and carried it away. Besides this some damage was done to the ladder lifting gear. Mr Robinson, the dredgemaster, expected to get a start again tins morning.
The Greenstone Junction rode the flood out safely, but the amount of silt deposited was greater than on any previous occasion, and filled up a great part of the paddock. This is just a trifle exasperating and somewhat conducive to cuss words seeing that the dredge was getting along well, and everyone looking forward to increased returns that would amply reward for all the vexacious disappointments incidental to the initial stages. The Greenstone Gold pontoons were to have been launched yesterday, but there is no confirmmatiou of the report up to the time of writing.
The Tcremakau pontoons were uninjured by the flood, The contractor was not quite prepared to launch. There is only one wire rope, and no boat there.
