STATE SCHOOL HOLIDAYS.

The following communications have passed between Mr Guinness, M.H.R., and the Minister for Education regarding facilities for visiting Wellington next month : “ Tnn Hon. Minister foe Education, Wellington. “Several State school teachers have expressed their desire to visit Wellington during the Royal reception; but, aS the West Coast teachers arc so isolated that they would be put to great expense in proceeding to Wellington, I would strongly urge that you should grant them facilities to proceed to Wellington by providing them with free railway and steamer passages, or by putting on the Tutauokai to run from West Coast to Wellington.— A. R Guinness.” The Minister replied in the following strain ;—■ “A. R, Guinness, Esq., Grey.— “ I am sorry to find that Tutanckai and Hiucmoa will be more than fully occupied during Royal visit, so that there will be no opportunity for school teachers from Coast by that means.—W. C. Walker.” Upon receipt of the above, Mr Guinness, with well-known persistency, sent the following ;

“The Hon. Minister of Education.. Wellington. “ Although ' you cannot arrange fortoad tors visiting Wellington during; Royal visit by Government steamer,, trust you can afford them some con-, cession and facilities to visit Wellington. You might arrange to give them same facilities as are given to volunteers.— A. R. Guinness.” Mr Walker’s final reply reads : “A. R. Guinness, M.11.R; r Greymouth. “ Regret impossible to make exception in favor of teachers such as you suggest.. —AY. C. AYai.keu.”
