THE ROYAL VISIT
The Westporfc Harbour Board.
At the meeting of the Westport Harbour Board several telegrams were read re the erection in Wellington of the coal arch on the occasion of the Royal visit. One from Mr Joachim stated rhat the Westport Coal Company agreed to supply the coal required for the arch. Mr Eeeves moved that the Westport Harbour Board erect an arch in Wellington, and also seating accomodation for at least 250 people in honour of the Duke of Cornwall and York, and the Chairman be instructed to take action; also that members of local bodies on the West Coast receive an invitation as guests of the Board at Wellington. Mr O'Regan was not in favour of spending the money on an arch. He looked upon it as waste of money, and stated that it belonged to the same category as fireworks. He would rather have a ward at a hospital erected. The Chairman said it was not until ihey received the lengthly telegram from the Premier that they decided to take action. As the Board were nominees of the Government, receiving their money" from it, he thought it was only right that they should comply with the Premier's request. Mr Reeves moved, and Mr O'Jttegan seconded, that the members of the Board be requested to attond the demonstration, and that the next meeting of the Board bo postponed for a week. —Carried.
