Auckland, May 25. Walter Look alias Samuel Marshall on , a charge of stealing £263, the property of the Bank of Now Zealand, was acquitted to-day. Accusscd gave evidence on bis own behalf and proved an alibi. Alter a short retirement the jury brought ip a verdict of not guilty,

Teachers’ Association. Dunedin, May 24,

In view of the recant proposal to reduce the salaries of male assistant-teachers an association for Otago has been formed. Conciliation Board.

Frostick, President of the boot manufacturers, was entertained. He said the boot manufacturers were now united and represented 95 per of the colony whicn benefited 10,000 men, women and children. He ventured to predict that within the next two years men’s earnings would bo increased by 50 per cent. All they asked of the men was to do their best for the employer. The abolition of the log was the best thing that could have happened far both master and man and the award was clear and unmistakable. The manufacturer could now manage his own business on any system he pleased and with any machinery, provided ho paid a minimum wage.

In tho Supreme Court to-day, Hood was charged with perjury at Culvorden. The defense is that Hood honestly believed that he had paid certain cheques to a girl, whereas they had been paid to other people.
