FLAGS FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS

— o:o (pee press association) "Wellington, May 22. The Department of Education has been endeavouring for some time to obtain a supply of New Zealand ensigns for presentation to public schools, but the difficulty of getting good bunting and accurate make at a reasonable price has been such that although three tenders were accepted over four months ago, only 78 flags are yet to hand. It is the desire of the Government that on the landing of the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and following the reception of a telegraphic message there shall be a simultaneous hoisting of flags at as many schools as possible. The Department will send to the Boards during the next fortnight flags for distribution to School Committees that do not already possess the national ensign. With each flag will be supplied a booklet on the Union Jack and its story.
