[Pee Press Association.]

Australia lags in the Rear.

Received this day at 10 C a.m. Sydney, May 21,

Complaints of surcharge on New Zealand letters continues. The Deputy Postmaster General states that the correct amount of postage of letters is twopence. His department was advised by the New Zealand Post Cilice in February last that instructions had been given to its officers to see that all letters posted in that Colony to places in Australia were prepaid prior to their dispatch. As however, such action was not takan in respect to some letters, a surcharge was imposed. Regarding the statement that it was understood that the New Zealand Department would pay any deficiency in postage on New Zealand letters for Australia but no official intimation to that effect was received by the Department.
