REEFTON UNITED BORING RESULTS.

Mr P. N. Kingswell, manager of the Eeofton United Gold Dredging Company, received the following from Mr Maynard, of the Keystone Borer, by last evening’s mail: “The fourth hole was placed within a few yards of the top boundary of Mikonui claim and bottomed in ‘ old man ’ reef at 37 feet (which wo tested for 2A feet) and after passing through river drift the whole way; the. prospect from, this hole was somewhat better, and averaged H grains to the yard, the bore being calculated at 8A in diameter. The terrace was distant GA chains from this hole, and the * old man ’ bottom is clearly visible in the terrace about ten feet, above the river, and which shows the bottom to dip 40 feet in chains towards the centre of your claim. “Kohinoor bottom boundary (Reefton United Co’s top boundary) hole.—Bottom was obtained here at 57 feet, and tested for one foot. The particulars were : (a) River Drift to 32 feeti (b) vegetable matter to 83 feet (o) sandy clay to 42 feet; (d) loose cement wash under false bottom to 56 with traces of clay on bottom. The prospects were: — 1 to 32feet, 2sgrs to yard 82 to 40 feet, 3£grs to yard 40,t0 51 feet, 2dwt 4£grs to yard. 51 id 57 feet, 22£grs to yard.

The average size of the hole was rather under nine inches.’’ The Mokonui claim above referred to is west of and adjoins the Reefton United Company’s ground, while the Kohinoor claim also adjoins it, the prospecting having been done to the order of the combined companies.
