GOLD MINING NEWS.
The heavy rain during the last few days have given the miners at Back Creek, Capo Terrace and other parts of the district, an ample supply of water for sluicing purposes.
The A. 1. Gold Dredging Company near Eeefton havo commenced operations and as the ground should be quickly opened out the dredge should soon figure in the weekly returns. The Gilliams Gully tunnel is now well forward, the tunnel is driven about 5,780 feet, and there are 400 yet tobe driven to complete it.
The miners have now a largo supply of water and the Wheel of Fortune Sluicing Claim is hard at work. This is an English syndicate.
Mr John Cameron of Hokitika was the successful tenderer for the cartage of coal from the railway station to the Perry’s Reward G.D. Company’s claim. It is understood the quantity required will bo about 50 tons per month.
