Maori Population. "Wellington, May 9.
The return of the Maori population of the Colony as shown by the late census is now complete and shows the native population of the North Island to be 40,611 an increase of 3,511; South Island 2,028 a decrease of 290; Chathams 212 increase 13. Mrs Frost, senior, of Wakapuaka, died on Wednesday night, aged 98. She had resided here over CO years and leaves many desendants extending to four generation 3 .

At tho Supreme Court George P. Boss for false pretences was admitted to probation for 18 months.
Alex Stapleton and Joseph Keir alias Irwin was sentenced to 12 and 6 months respectively for breoking and edtering.
