Brodrick stated in the Commons tliat altogether 396 foreigners were captured during the South African campaign, including 45 Frenchmen, 42 Russians, 36 Americans, and 273 Germans. Fifteen thousand troops, stationed between IComatipoort and Pretoria, find it difficult to protect the railway. The St. James’ Gazette re-echos the Times’ statemen t that England is making inadequate efforts to end the war. The Pall Mall Gazette expresses a similar view. •
