New York, May 4. Thirty-five blocks of buildngs at Jacksonville, Florida, have been burned down. The spread of the flames was greatly assisted by a gale raging during the fire The fire at Jacksonville destroyed the St. James and Windsor Hotels, the Catholic church, and two acres of residential properties. Received tin's day, at 9 G p.m. New Mock, April 5. The Jacksonville fire destroyed 148 blocks of buildings covering an area two miles long by thirteen blocks wide, including churches, gaols, and many business offices.

The dunnage is estimated at fiftee; million dollars.

Seven persons lost their lives and twelve thousand persons were homeless. The fire originated by a defective electric wire falling on a shredding machine* in a fibre manufactory.
