THE BANK ROBBERY.

(pee press association.)

Auckland, May 3. Details of the hank robbery show that a young man opened an account with the Bank of New Zealand, in the name of Marshall, a month Jago, giving his address. Afterwards it was proved to be fictitious.

On Tuesday he presented a cheque for £7 on his account, which then stood at £SO. After the cheque had been marked he altered the figures to £270. The money was paid out by the teller in £lO notes. The man then went to the Newton branch, and exchanged the notes, and more notes were changed to the branch of the National. His demeanour attracted the attention of a detective, who followed till he was identified as the person who changed the notes.

The man, when arrested, gave his name as Walter Sock, and said he was a tea merchant and only had £27 on him. Accused was remanded.
