London, May 1
The details of the fight at Malalatine, in Zululand, show that tho Magistrate (C. A. Wheelwright) and 2(5 Europeans marched at night, a mile and a half to meet Boyers’ commando, numbering 400, posted at Nkongeninck, and commanding the whole range and portion of the Ulundi Plain.
The enemy, who used expanding bullets, were driven at daybreak to tho summit of the range. Tho British extended along the Boer skirmishing line, each fighting independently. Most of the British casualties occurred dislodging a party from the ditches and trees at Nkogein Hill, Five British checked the enemy’s advance across tho plain. The Boers were driven to tho Zululand border, carrying their dead. Lord Kitchener asked tho names of those who distinguished themselves.
