Seddon lias cabled to the State Premier inviting him and his colleagues and their wives to visit New Zealand on the occasion of the Eoyal visit. ,
The Federal Cabinet has decided that both houses will sit for four days in the week, the sittings commencing at 2 o’clock.
Sir Henry Parke’s two daughters will be amongst the honored guests at the Commonwealth parliament celebrations. The warships Hansa, Noord. Brabant and Gromoboi, have arrived for the celebrations.
The final arrangements are completed for the opening of the Commonwealth Parliament. As the members enter and take their seats, the “ Old Hundredth ” will be rendered by the orchestral accompaniment. After the Duke of York reads the commission for opening the Parliament, the “ Hallelujah ” chorus will be given, the proceedings closing with “ Rule Britannia ” and an anthem.
The following afternoon Hopetoun will attend and deliver the Governor-Generals speech. Received this day at 10 30 a.m. Albany, May 2.
The Ophir resumed her visit at six yesterday morning. The cruisers sailed later, after coaling. The Administrator of Government on behalf of the Government and people sent a telegram to the Yorks, congratulating them on their safe, arrival in Australian waters. The Duke of Y'ork replied, thanking then* for their kind message of greeting. Details of the Ophir’s voyage show that the Eoyal party found the heat in the Eed Sea and at Singapore rather trying, but thoroughly enjoyed the trip. They were delighted at the enthusiastic receptions everywhere.
Tha squadron called in at Aden, wheA an address was presented by a Parsoe gentleman who subsequently dined with the Duke and Duchess on the Ophir. The visit to Ceylon was especially v enjoyable. Among the festivities at Kandy was a display of fireworks and a procession of elephants. Colombo was lavishly decorated. Later Received this day at 10 33 a. m. Singapore was beautifully illuminated and numerous addresses with valuable „novel caskets were presented, including one each from tha Hindoos, Arabs, Malays and Chinese. The stay at Singapore was marred by the death of one of the Ophira stokers. The body was committed to deep shortly after leaving with full naval honors. The Duke and Duchess attending. The squadron crossed the lino on the 25th ult. At the Duke’s command the old ceremony of Neptune coming aboard was carried out on each vessel with much amusement. A special correspondent and all others who had not previously gone through the ceremony wore ordered to be made sons of Neptune in the orthodox manner.
