GOLLAN'S TREBLE SCULLING BOAT.
Commenting on the treble sculler, a London writer says :—A unique specimen of the boat builders' art will be launched; at Putney in the immediate future, no less than a treble sculling boat, which is at present being built by Messrs Sims to the order of the well-known sportsman, Mr Spencer Gollan. The latter, a member of the Thames Kowing Club, is well known on the river, and is a very familiar figure, winter or summer, in a double sculling boat, his partner usually being the champion, G. Town?, or the ex-champion, T. Sullivan. Last spring he was out daily during the 'Varsity practices, and time and time again led even the Light Blues between Bridges. Previous to the Henley Eegatta, he had a record row from Putney to Henley Bridge with Sullivan, and now he very evidently intends to give the Blues plenty of pacing with both the champions and himself. The new boat is being constructed under the supervision of Tom Sullivan, and though, therefore, on the "short" principle, will be on our racing lines, and is probably the first of her description. The sculls are being specially made by Messrs Ayling and Son, and more than ordinary interest will be evinced in the boat, her speed, and tha success of the oarsmen—tho fastest combination which could probably sit in ono boat sculling.
