MASSACRE AT NEW BRITAIN.

Sydney, April 28,
The steamer Moresby brought details of the massacre at St Mathias island, Bismark Archipelago. While at New Britain the yacht Eberhardt, owned by Herr Men eke,' who was conducting a scientic expedition in the Archipelago, arrived and reported that when Menckc and Ids' secretary Caro, the Doctor, and some native boys were camped, the Mathias Islanders attacked them in great force. The Doctor was speared in the leg but. managed to escape. A party wont to the scene and found Menckc dead and Caro severely injured, but lie died after his removal to the yacht. Menckc was a millionaire.
Six natives of Ids party were also killed but not before 1 -I of the cannibals were shot down.
